As part of a regional realignment, the company is seeking an Interim Financial Controller to manage end-to-end accounting operations, statutory compliance, and financial reporting. This contract role is critical to maintaining financial continuity, ensuring audit readiness, and supporting ongoing improvements in process efficiency and control.

The Role

An exciting interim opportunity now exists for an experienced Financial Controller to lead the day-to-day finance operations across Australia and New Zealand. Reporting to the Regional Chief Financial Officer, the role offers immediate responsibility for financial reporting, tax compliance, audit coordination, and budget management.

This is a hands-on and autonomous position that requires a high level of technical accuracy, strong process orientation, and the ability to manage local compliance requirements while coordinating with global stakeholders. The successful candidate will be based in the Sydney office four days per week and play a key role in maintaining financial rigour during a critical business period.

Key Responsibilities

• Financial Operations & Controls – Manage the full suite of finance activities across AU and NZ, including journal entries, reconciliations, monthly close, and fixed asset management.

• Compliance & Audit – Lead statutory reporting, tax lodgements, and year-end audit preparation. Ensure compliance with local tax laws and regulatory standards.

• Budgeting & Forecasting – Support financial planning cycles, prepare variance analysis, and provide regional finance input to corporate teams.

• AR/AP, Payroll & Treasury Oversight – Coordinate with external providers to manage payroll processing, accounts payable and receivable, and cash flow management.

• Stakeholder Management – Serve as the key contact for auditors, tax advisors, and internal stakeholders across finance and business operations.

• Process & Systems – Drive continuous improvement in accounting systems and financial processes. Utilise ERP tools (preferably JD Edwards) and advanced Excel capabilities for reporting.

Key Competencies

• Technical Accounting Expertise – CA or CPA qualified with deep experience in local GAAP, tax compliance, and audit preparation.

• Financial Reporting – Proven ability to manage end-to-end monthly and annual close processes, delivering accurate and timely reports.

• Analytical & System Skills – Strong Excel proficiency and familiarity with ERP systems. Experience with JD Edwards is advantageous.

• Stakeholder Engagement – Confident communicator, comfortable working with external providers and cross-functional internal teams.

• Delivery Focused – Able to prioritise tasks, manage competing deadlines, and operate independently in a lean finance function.

The Offer

This is a fantastic short-term opportunity for an experienced finance professional to step into an interim role within a well-regarded consumer goods business. You will be offered a competitive daily rate or fixed-term package and the opportunity to work in a collaborative, internationally connected environment. This will be a 3 month Interim role which has a possibility of being made permanent. 

The role requires presence in the Sydney office four days per week and offers the chance to contribute meaningfully to a period of business stability and financial rigour.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be CA or CPA qualified with at least five years’ experience in financial control, accounting operations, and audit preparation. You will have a strong technical skillset, solid understanding of AU/NZ compliance requirements, and the ability to work hands-on within a global business structure.
